Symptoms
Increasingly painful periods, pelvic pain, pain during intercourse and difficulty conceiving are among the most common complaints. In some women it is noticed on a routine ultrasound without any clear symptoms.
Diagnosis
Examination and vaginal ultrasound play an important part in detecting a chocolate cyst. The size and appearance of the cyst are assessed; if considered necessary, tests or additional imaging are requested. In some cases a definite diagnosis is made by laparoscopy.
Treatment options
Treatment is planned according to the size of the cyst, your symptoms, your age and whether you want children. In some cases monitoring or medication that suppresses pain and the disease is suitable; in others laparoscopy comes into question. Protecting ovarian reserve is an important part of the decision, especially in women who want children.
