Symptoms
Pelvic pain that increases as the bladder fills and eases after passing urine, frequent urination including at night, a sudden feeling of urgency and pain during intercourse may be seen. Symptoms may come and go over time.
Diagnosis
In diagnosis, urinary tract infection and other gynaecological or urinary causes that produce similar symptoms are first ruled out. Urine tests, examination and ultrasound are used in this process; if considered necessary, an assessment is made together with the relevant department.
Treatment approach
Treatment usually consists of several steps: identifying foods and drinks that worsen the symptoms, adjusting bladder habits, medication and, when needed, treatments applied inside the bladder. The aim is to ease the symptoms and improve quality of life.
